Millfields dominate the Circuit Races

The year 5 girls line up to start.

Millfields dominated the first set of Circuit Races held at the Lea Valley Velopark on Friday 15th January - taking three wins from four on a freezing cold but sunny afternoon. Eighty nine riders from eight schools took on the windy circuit for three or four laps depending on their age category.
The year 5 girls went first and Molly Gregory from Gayhurst went off  very fast and stayed away to win the race from a distant trio of Jubilee riders - Anna, Maia and Greta. Well done to all the year five girls battling against that headwind in the straight for three laps.

The year five boys were up next with what looked like it could be a close battle between the Jubilee riders and the representatives of Millfields. Ruben Mooney and Robin Steer started stretching the field with Robin starting to edge out a lead by lap two he stayed strong to win in style for Millfields.

Next up were the year six girls and again a close race was anticipated between Millfields and Jubilee.
A new rider for Millfields came into the mix - Martha was staying with Anoushka and Esther after the first lap but then Anoushka began to pull away, lapping half the field in the four lap race, and sealed another win for Millfields.

The final race of the day had the largest field as 26 year six boys lined up to start their four laps. Robbie from Gayhurst led round a quartet of Millfields boys - Conrad, Oliver, Rueben and Joey used their numerical advantage to take a clean sweep of the podium places - something we haven't seen for a few years by any of the schools. The team in blue are after Jubilee's title but I don't think they'll be giving it up without a fight.

The top of the league is still very close between Jubilee and Millfields with Gayhurst a distant third then there is close grouping who could take the fourth spot - so plenty to aim for yet.

YHPSCL feature in GO-Ride magazine

The Young Hackney Primary Schools Cycling League is featured in the latest issue of British Cycling's Go-Ride magazine. All the league events are registered through Cycling Club Hackney with British Cycling as Go-Ride races - the entry level races aimed at getting young people into cycle sport. BC in turn supply us with medals, prizes and certificates for the riders. I'll be bringing copies of the magazine to the next race for each school to take away,
