Rolling into the holidays

 14/12/22

The Young Hackney Primary Schools Cycling League rolled into the holiday season last friday on the indoor roller racing rig at a new venue for the league. Young Hackney Eastway is a new purpose built sports venue for Young Hackney available for all Hackney youngsters to use, sited on the Eastway on the way over to the Olympic park. One hundred and nine riders from ten different schools made their way over throughout the day to take on the short sharp effort on the rollers and to enjoy themselves out in the muga playing football, basketball and table tennis.

The riders were all racing for 250m and gave it their all. For the year four girls we had some great times in the morning with Rosie from Millfileds finishing in third at 18.28 seconds, whilst Zeynap from Shacklewell finished in second on 16.05 seconds. However in the afternoon Janai from Orchard blazed home in first place in an amazing 14.81 seconds - would this be the fastest time of the day overall? We'll have to see...

The year 4 boys again set fast times in the morning and afternoon with Ray from Shacklewell coming first in 15.53, Bay from Millfields second in 16.27 and Wulf from Gayhurst in third on 17.7 seconds. Only four seconds separated the top ten.

The year five girls produced even closer results with three seconds separating the first 13 riders.
Orla from Millfields finished in third place on 16.53 seconds only three tenths behind team mate Klara on 16.28secs. Another two tenths in front of her was Mia from Soputhwold taking the win on 16.03 seconds.

The year five boys were perhaps the closest of the lot with ten seconds separating all the riders. Leon from Southwold came in just ahead of his two team mates in third place on 16.29 seconds. Tino from William Patten finished in second place on 15.77 seconds. Five tenths separated him from Omar of Millfields who took first place on 15.28 seconds.

All this meant that our fastest time of the day - faster even than any of the adults attending set - was Janai's
brilliant 14.81 seconds - bragging rights go to all the year four girls.

We'll be back in January at Eastyway for the next round with years 5 and 6 - see you then.

Cyclocross fun on the Downs

11/11/22

An auspicious date welcomed the riders of the Young Hackney Primary Schools Cycling League to Hackney Downs for round 2 of this years season.  The rain had battered down all week beforehand but Friday saw the sun come out making for ideal conditions on the grass course which featured many tight turns and and a tricky descent then ascent. A challenging course for newcomers to the world of cyclocross but the riders rose to the challenge and produced a series of excellent races.

The year five girls raced first tasking on three laps of the course. It was a closely fought affair between the front runners but by the last lap Klara of Millfields had put in a hard effort to distance the rest. Flossie from William Patten finished din second place with CCH rider Peppa coming third for Rushmore.

Year six girls get started

Year six girls went next with Hattie from Millfields taking a quick lead only to slide out on one of the tight turns and lose a lot of places. Her place at the front was taken up by her team mate Billie who was being challenged by Annie from Jubilee.
