Last Friday before half term saw the Young Hackney Primary Schools League arrive in the south east of the borough at Mabley Green - close to Young Hackney's new venue on the Eastway. The last time CCHackney put on an event here the Olympic torch was passing by. In the intervening years a fair amount of landscaping has meant the venue is no longer suitable for grass track but is excellent as beginners mountain bike or cyclocross course. How would the years 4 and 5 riders from the YHPSCL tackle the mounds?
After taking in the length and technical nature of the course on a training lap the riders were left with no illusion as to how difficult the races might be. Luckily the weather was on our side meaning slipping out wouldn't be a problem. It would all come down to who had paid attention to the coaching points on ascending and descending.

Year 4 girls race start. |
The year fours would be doing two laps of the course and the girls started the racing. It was close going into the first climb but after that Eri from Millfields started to lead out Refi from Rushmore and the Jubilee duo of Carmen and Dotty.
That was the way it was to the finish with Eri pulling further ahead by the end.

Year 5 girls podium. |
The final race of the day saw the year 5 boys take on three laps. With the top three riders taking off from the start and swapping places as they went Sam from Millfields, Leo from Rushmore and Frank from Jubilee put on a fine race.
In the end Sam would take the win making it a clean sweep for Millfields, with Frank taking second in front of Leo. Great racing all round and many tired legs no doubt on the way home although most of the riders seemed to find enough energy to run round the circuit following the other races...
