Mountain biking at Mabley Green

 10/2/23

A fairly mild day for February saw the riders of the Young Hackney Primary Schools Cycling League tackle the bumps on Mabley Green for the mountain bike round of this years league. The event was for years 4 and 5 over a short course but one that challenged their understanding of MTB techniques and skills.

The year 4 boys race on the tricky second descent.

The course included a couple of short sharp ascents followed by steep descents that look benign on the photographs but are quite different when you are riding them, especially the second descent which was followed immediately by a sharp turn. Correct body positioning and braking were key to getting this sector right.

Bay from Millfields won out over a duo from Gayhurst - Wulf then Elias - to make up the podium.

The year five boys race was next with the biggest field of the day. Two pairings from Gayhurst and Millfields quickly built up a lead over the bunch.

Half way into the last lap Oscar from Gayhurst made the decisive move on the first bump and stayed away to take the win. Max from Millfields filled him for second with Joshua from Gayhurst coming third just in front of Loutro from Millfields.

Last race of the day were the year five girls. Again we had a close battle at the front involving pair of Millfields riders and a rider from Rushmore. In the end the Millfields pair worked well together to draw clear with Eri coming first followed by Klara then Pepa.
