Grassy Grass Track on the Downs

 Friday 12th May and the the Young Hackney Primary Schools Cycling League round seven moved onto the grass at Hackney Downs. I know grass track is meant to take place on grass but maybe not in it. Despite the grass having been cut earlier in the week it was still long enough to lose a small dog in making for hard going conditions for the year four and five riders from the eight schools that attended. The rioters got on with anyway and the weather behaved itself for once.

The first group of races were three lap scratch races - with fairly large fields in each race there was scope for mishaps but everyone seemed to get around without too much trouble. Year four girls started off the races with Rosie from Millfields coming first followed by Marina from gayhurst second and Beatrice from Millfields third.

The Year four boys  went next with Lucio from Benthal coming first followed by teammate Phil in second and Cedric from Millfields third.

Year five girls scratch race finished with Klara from Millfields coming first followed by Mia from Southwold second and Lola from Gayhurst third.

The year five boys finished with Tino from William Patten in first, Ben from Rushmore in second and Maxwell from Millfields in third.

Year 4 girls results

The next group of races were the elimination or devil events where the last rider over the line is withdrawn  each lap until a final lap sprint for the victory.

Year four girls started again with the first two place s again going to Rosie from Millfields followed by Marina from gayhurst second and Cleo from Rushmore coming third.

The Year four boys  went next with Wolf from Gayhurst coming first followed by Bay from Millfields in second and Cedric from Millfields third.

The year five girls elimination race finished with Klara from Millfields coming first followed by Lola from Gayhurst second and Pepa from Rushmore  third.

The year five boys finished with Ben from Rushmore first with Tino  and Alex from William Patten in  second and third.

The final group of races were a one lap sprint with a Le Mans style start where the riders have to run and get onto there bikes then ride for one lap.

Year four girls started again with the first two place s again going to Marina from gayhurst first then Rosie from Millfields second and Uma from Rushmore coming third.

The Year four boys went next with Lucio from Benthal first Wolf from Gayhurst coming second followed by Bay from Millfields in third.

The year five girls race finished with coming Mia from Southwold first followed by Lola from Gayhurst second and Klara from Millfields third.

The year five boys finished with Leon from Southwold first with Joshua  from Gayhurst second and Oscar also Gayhurst third.

The overall results for the day were worked out on the placing across all three races - so for there year4 girls that finished with Rosie 1st, Marina 2nd and Beatrice 3rd.

Year 4 boys finished Lucio 1st, Wolf 2nd , Bay 3rd.

Year 5 girls -Klara 1st, Lola 2nd, Mia 3rd.

Year 5 boys - Ben1st, Maxwell 2nd, Leon 3rd.
