Grass Track - Round 8

14/6/19 Round 8 of the Young Hackney Primary Schools Cycling League took place at Hackney Downs. Another grass track event was set up and the rain showed up too but didn't spoil the fun. Although some schools stayed away due to the weather the sun eventually came out. It was also great to welcome back Tyssen Primary School who competed in the league was back when there were only three schools taking part.

The riders took part in mini Omnium - each age group and gender had three races to take part in -
a 3 lap scratch race, a one lap handicap sprint and finally an elimination race.

The scratch races determined where each rider was started from on the oval in the handicap sprint
with the best riders in the scratch race starting at the back and the lowest placed riders starting half way round turn 1.

In the elmination races riders were taken out each lap from the rear of the bunch - the laps were neutralised with the sprints being signalled by the whistle. The number of laps was around 8 with five riders left to decide the top places.

Whilst we waited for the results to be tallied up the riders took part in som fun races they had a leMans style start where they had to sit down hands on their helmets then get up and run to their bikes then race half a lap.

Jubilee won the round but it looks like they won't be able to overhaul Millfields for the title with only one round remaining., and Parkwood look like keeping the number three spot.
